Hoosier Energy Director of Public Affairs Randy Haymaker has been named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governor Joe Kernan.
The
award was presented by Lt. Gov. Katherine Davis Thursday, Dec. 18, at
the Indiana Rural Development Council’s Annual Meeting in Lebanon.
“As Governor of Indiana, I am honored to appoint you a Sagamore of the Wabash and to express the appreciation of all Hoosiers for your commitment to making Indiana a better place to live and raise a family,” Kernan said in his letter announcing the appointment. “Indiana is better off today because of your dedication to it and your fellow Hoosiers.”
Haymaker has worked at Hoosier Energy since 1995 after a short stint at the Indiana Department of Commerce. As director of public affairs, Haymaker is assistant to the chief executive officer and oversees legislative affairs and other duties, including rural development issues.
Among accomplishments cited in Haymaker’s nomination letter:
Former executive board member of the Indiana Rural Development Council, and current IRDC board member.
Local participation in Morgan County organizations including serving as the first economic development director for his hometown of Mooresville.
Trustee for the Center for Agricultural Science and Heritage.
Member of the Purdue Council for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching.
Executive Committee Member for the Southern Indiana Rural Development Project.
Past president of the Indiana Economic Development Association.
Former committee member for the National Rural Economic Development Association.
The Sagamore of the Wabash is a special award presented by Indiana Governors. The term was used by Native Americans to describe a great person to whom the chief would look for wisdom and advice.
