Turtle Creek Reservoir open for 24-hour-a-day fishing

Turtle Creek Reservoir in Sullivan County is open for 24-hour-a-day fishing as of May 5. Fishing had been restricted to daylight hours during fall and winter months.

Hoosier Energy reminds users of the reservoir to follow all posted rules and regulations including the no-fishing restrictions in designated areas. All state fishing laws and other posted regulations are enforced. The public’s cooperation in following fishing and boating safety procedures is appreciated at all times.

The users fee remains the same for 2008: $1 for persons 16-years-old and younger, and those 65-year-old or older; and $3 for others.

For the fishing enthusiast, Turtle Creek Reservoir is stocked with bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie, largemouth bass and channel catfish. A 20-inch minimum size limit is in effect for largemouth bass with a daily limit of one.

Boats are subject to a 10 h.p. motor limit. Those fishing from boats are urged to be alert to changing weather conditions, especially high winds from northwest and southwest, which can produce rough and dangerous situations on the lake.

Hoosier Energy and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Fish and Wildlife Division cooperatively manage the sport fishery.

In addition to being a popular southwestern Indiana recreation area, the 1,550-acre Turtle Creek Reservoir provides cooling water for the Merom Generating Station. The power plant is owned by Hoosier Energy, the electric power supplier for 18 electric cooperatives in Indiana and Illinois.
